11 Must do’s in Miami

You can do a boat ride in Miami to spot the houses of celebrities. To view the city, you should take the metro mover. Here are my must do’s in Miami, Florida!

1) Miami Beach

Miami Beach is the most famous beach of all beaches in the city. The beach is located on an island, away from downtown. We were lucky because our hotel was in Miami Beach.

Fun fact: The first 50 meters of the sea is only mid-waist high!

2) Art Deco District

So there is this district called the Art Deco District. Ocean Drive and Miami Beach lie in this district. The buildings are from around the 1930s and have pastel colors. At night every bar and hotel opens their doors for a drink with their neon signs.

Sad Fact: You can dine at the Versace mansion, the same estate where Versace was shot and killed.

Fun fact: Did you know Miami Vice and the video clip Cool of the Jonas Brothers were filmed on this street?

3) Lincoln Road

Lincoln Road is a shopping & dining promenade in South beach that features retailers, designer brands, boutiques, restaurants, and sidewalk cafes.

4) Ocean Drive

Ocean Drive is a popular tourist destination. It lies in the Art Deco District and at South Beach. Locals will show off their shiny expensive cars in Ocean Drive at night.

Fun Fact: Will Smith has recorded a part of his video clip “Miami” in Ocean Drive. See for yourself at 1:15. Same for the Jonas Brothers in “Cool”.

5) Bayside Marketplace

Bayside Marketplace has a lot of shops and restaurants. The marketplace is located at the waterfront, where you can buy boat tour tickets (number 9).

6) American airlines arena

Imagine catching a game here!

7) Wynwood walls

Wynwood was originally an industrial area with lots of factories and warehouses. Tony Goldman realized that the giant factory walls would make the perfect canvas for urban art.

On top of all the street art in the neighborhood, make sure to check out the GGA Gallery at the heart of Wynwood Walls as well.

8) Miami design district

Go visit the Miami design district for modern architecture, world-class dining, upscale interior design stores, and art galleries.

Fun fact: The Miami Desing district was once a pineapple farm

9) Celebrity Home Tour

Yeah ok, this is very tourist-like. For 90 minutes, you’ll see Star Island, South Beach, the city Skyline, and celebrity homes.

10) Metro Mover

If you want to discover the city, you can just take the Metro Mover. We don’t have such a thing in Belgium so this was fun!

Fun fact: We spotted Antonio Banderas or a look like …

11) The Everglades

The Everglades is a national park that consists of swamps, water, and mangroves. The wildlife in the Everglades can vary from alligators, snakes, and birds to raccoons and turtles.

The best way to visit the Everglades is by airboat! The tour will take about an hour and you are protected from the rain (this was not the case in 2010, see the difference for yourself below). When taking the airboat it feels like you are floating over the swamps.

Have you ever been to Miami?
