9 must do’s in Key West | Florida

Key West is for most tourists their last stop in Florida. It’s the perfect place to spend your last days in a chill and relax modus. Here are my must do’s!

1) Old Town

Make sure you visit the old town, it’s the western part of Key West. All the houses are built in the Victorian style, have pastel colors, and have a porch.

2) Duval Street

Duval Street crosses right through the Old Town and is the most famous street. There are a lot of bars and restaurants here. So be sure to visit some!

Bar fact: Have a drink at Sloopy Joe’s, the very same place where Hemingway drank.

Food tip: Go eat some Key Lime Pie as breakfast!

Shop tip: Go shop at Del Sol. They sell clothes and nail polish that changes color in the sun!

3) Ernest Hemingway House

So Ernest Hemingway decided to live in Whitehead street. His house is now turned into a museum where you can wander around.

Fun fact: Hemingway received a cat with 6 toes from a captain. As a result, all cats at Hemingway House have 6 toes now.

4) Southernmost Point

Another thing to visit is the Southernmost Point. Key West is the most southern part of the USA hence the name. When you would take a boat, you’d be in Cuba after sailing 90 miles.

5) Key West Lighthouse

You’ll also be able to see the lighthouse from the Hemingway House and the Southernmost Point. If you have the time, be sure the climb the light tower to have a 360° view of Key West.

6) Key West AIDS Memorial

Furthermore, make sure to visit the Key West AIDS Memorial. I never find this one on travel blogs but this can’t be missed in Key West.

7) Spotting Dolphins

Another must-do is dolphin spotting. We took a boat and we made a tour around the island to spot dolphins. So this was a lot of fun. The dolphins here are not disturbed rather than in Bali where they almost hunt them down to spot the tiniest bit of fin.

Tip: Don’t forget your sunscreen and camera!

8) Harbor

Another thing to visit is the harbor to discover many boats. You’ll be able to see how they gut their fish but also how they celebrate a good catch.

9) Be fishy

Lastly, just be fishy. You can feed some giant fish in the harbor but you can also eat some fish. I don’t eat anything from the sea, so it was a burger for me.

Have you ever been to Key West?
