7 must do’s in Gibraltar

When we were in Málaga, we decided to visit Gibraltar, a small British colony. We spend a whole day in the city. Here are my must do’s when in Gibraltar.

Check out my Instagram for more photos!

1) Grand Casemates Square

Gibraltar has 2 squares and one of them is the Grand Casemates Square. From there you can discover the city. The city has a mix of Spanish and English influences. You’ll see Spanish houses, red telephone booths, and busses.

2) Moorish Castle

You can also visit the Moorish Castle if you want. But the ones I saw in Portugal were more impressive.

3) Rock of Gibraltar

Gibraltar is known for its large rock. The rock has a height of 426 meters and gives an amazing view of the area. The rock has been a strategic place throughout history. Only the British could conquer Gibraltar and its Rock. Since 1713 it’s been an official British area.

Sad Fact: Our camera got broken on that trip so some photos have this blue/green shine.

4) Apes Den Gibraltar

The Rock is also home to Apes Den; a colony of monkeys. Legend says that when the monkeys will leave the Rock, the British people will leave the area.

Warning: It’s forbidden to feed the monkeys! You can get a fine of 500 pounds!

Warning: Don’t get too close to the monkeys as they can bite! One monkey even bit my mother. She was lucky she did not get rabies.

5) St Michael’s Cave

St. Michael’s Cave is a cave in the Rock of Gibraltar. Water slipped into the rock and made beautiful caves just like the St Michael’s Cave. This cave is 60 meters deep and is a great spot to cool off in the summer!

6) Europa Point

Europa Point is the most southern point of Gibraltar. From this point, you can even see Morocco. It’s only 22 km from that point!

7) Gibraltar Airport

When entering the area from Spain you’ll have to pass the runway from the airport. So bizarre. We had to wait until a plane took off before we could enter the city. Very special!
