9 must do’s in Nusa Lembongan

So after Lombok, we went on to the Nusa Islands. The boat trip was horrible because there was a malfunction (the propeller was broken so we had to sail very slow). It took us a whole day to arrive in Nusa Lembongan but it was worth it. Here are my must-dos in Nusa Lembongan!

Fun fact: Nusa Lembongan has a low tide in the afternoon/evening. You’ll have to jump into the shallow water and drag your luggage to the beach. I was so happy I brought my backpack!

1) Snorkeling

You certainly have to go snorkeling! You can combine this one with numbers 2 and 3! You’ll see a lot of fish and corals but I still find the corals in the Dominican Republic more beautiful! We took a snorkeling tour that took us to Manta Bay (must do #2), Crystal Bay, the underwater buddha (must do #3) and Mangrove Point.

The difference between, crystal bay and mangrove point is the current, depth and corals. Crystal Bay has a lot of corals and fish, while Mangrove Point has more seaweed and less fish. The depth in crystal bay is 5 meters while the depth of the mangrove point is 7 meters at some point. Mangrove point is also out in the open ocean, so there is a strong current.

2) Swimming with manta rays

You definitely have to swim with manta rays when you are visiting the Nusa islands! Such incredible creatures! There are about 50+ of them. The mantas swim beneath your feet which gives a weird feeling. They are not dangerous but still keep clear from them and don’t provoke them. When looking down from the boat, it looks like there are sharks in the water but those are just the fins of the mantas.

Tip: Don’t panic! If you have trouble with swimming, just tell your guide and he’ll provide a life jacket.

3) Visit the underwater buddha

The underwater Buddha is situated between Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Penida. The Buddha lays at a depth of around 6 meters but once again it lies in the open water so there is a very strong current.

4) Visit the Golden Bridge

The Golden Bridge is the bridge between Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan. It’s nice to behold but that’s all. Watch out for those bikers when walking down that bridge!

5) Visit the panoramic view

The panoramic view on Nusa Lembongan is also amazing to behold. You’ll see the beach and you can even see Bali if you are lucky enough. This island keeps surprising me.

6) Visit Dream Beach

Dream Beach is indeed dreamy! Take a swim if you like but do it only when the sea is calm. You don’t want to be dragged into the water. Dream Beach is also a good surf spot if the wheater allows it.

7) Visit Devil’s Tear

The Devil’s Tear is a 5-minute walk away from Dream Beach. Definitely do not take a swim here! Just stay here and watch the waves collide with the rocky cliffs and you’ll get a shower for free.

Warning: Watch your step, it’s very slippery!

8) Watch the sunset

Well, this is a must do everywhere! Just sit back, relax and enjoy that cocktail.

9) Nusa Penida

If you have the time I would recommend visiting Nusa Penida! I’ve heard a lot about the famous T-Rex and other beautiful beaches there. We didn’t have the time to visit it but that’s a perfect excuse to return to Indonesia someday!
