7 must do’s in Namur

If you are exploring cities in Belgium, then you must explore Namur. The city lies at the edge of the Belgian Ardennes and is also the city where the Maas and the Samber, 2 rivers, merge.

P.S. Check out my Instagram for more photos!

1) Citadel

The citadel lies 100 meters above the Maas and Samber and gives you an amazing view of the 2 rivers merging together.

2) Saint-Loup church

I haven’t seen this church during my trip to Namur but I heard it is very beautiful and that the interior is even more beautiful!

3) Shopping Street

Go do some shopping in Namur! It has a large shopping street with many retailers but also small boutiques.

4) Town Square

Every town square is a must-do! We visited Namur during the Christmas holidays so we saw the Town Square while covered in Christmas lights and a Christmas market.

5) Cathedral of Saint Aubain

The St Aubin’s Cathedral in Namur is the only one in Belgium built in the Late Baroque style. When we were there, the square in front of it was a giant parking lot.

6) Christmas Market in December

Visit the Christmas Market of Namur in December and follow the enlighted tour throughout the city!

7) Marche-les-Dames

Just outside Namur, lies Marche-les-Dames. The town is notorious for being the place where the Belgian King Albert I died while rock climbing. On the 17th of February in 1934 our king went rock climbing in Marche-les-Dames all by himself. Nobody saw what happened but everyone concluded he slipped while climbing.

8) Dinant

Go have a one-day trip to Dinant, the birthplace of Aldoph Sax!
