6 must do’s in Golden | Canada

After Revelstoke, we had to visit our first waterfall of the trip and that was in Golden. Golden has nothing much to offer but the area around Golden is a must-do!

Yoho National Park

1) Wapta Falls

So the hike to Wapta Falls is a 4.6 km hike that can be done in 2 hours (return). Wolves and beavers roam the area but we didn’t see them. Wapta Falls is the largest waterfall on the Kicking Horse River with a height of 30 meters. Wapta Falls is a 30-minute ride away from Golden.

2) Emerald Lake

Emerald Lake is surrounded by mountain and glacier views. The hike around the lake is 5.2 km and will take you around 2.5 hours to walk it. Emerald Lake is the first green lake we encounter and boy! How beautiful it is!

Fun Fact: This lake is less touristy than Lake Louise and Morraine Lake. More peace, more nature feelings.

3) Takakkaw Falls

After hiking Emerald Lake, go park near Takakkaw Falls for a lunch break. This 254 meters high waterfall is one heck of a view. When you’re getting closer to the waterfall, you’ll absolutely get wet (and cold).

Glacier National Park

4) Hemlock Grove Boardwalk

This boardwalk is accessible for people with mobility disabilities or visual impairments. This boardwalk was build in order to commemorate Rick Hansen. He completed his 2 year trip (34 countries, and 40.000 km trip) in Rogers Pass. The boardwalk is his legacy.

5) Rockgarden trail

The Rock Garden Trail has boulder fields that date back to the last Ice Age. From the Rock Garden Trail, you can see Rogers Pass already (n°6). The trail is also located in the black bear and grizzly area, but we didn’t see any.

6) Rogers Pass

When riding to or from Golden, you’ll ride through Rogers Pass. Rogers Pass is a mountain pass used by the Canadian Pacific Railway and Trans-Canada Highway. It’s a shortcut to get to Golden.
