7 must do’s in Coo | Belgium

Coo (Belgium) is regarded as an important recreational center that is perfectly integrated into the beautiful surrounding nature. The eye-catcher of the village is the waterfalls.

1) Waterfall of Coo

The waterfalls of Coo are a must see if you’re in Coo. It’s what is typical of the town for all Belgians: that and Plopsa Coo. The waterfalls are one of the most famous sights of the Ardennes. The waterfall has a height of 15 meters and is therefore one of the highest in Belgium. It is a beautiful sight and many tourists come to Coo to capture this natural phenomenon.

The monks of Stavelot Abbey are the ones who laid the foundations of the famous waterfalls: to provide a water mill with water, they moved a meander of the Amblève. The excess water made its way over nearby rocks and formed the waterfall we know today.

2) Lake of Coo

There is certainly no shortage of hiking trails in and around the village. On the information boards in the center of the village, you will find numerous walking routes that you can follow. We opted for a short five-kilometer walk around the lakes of Coo, which you can perfectly combine with a visit to the waterfalls where you even have time left in the day to relax.

3) Plopsa Coo

Plopsa Coo is an amusement park for children and can be found at the foot of the falls. It is a super fun park for children with various attractions and a small petting zoo with some goats.

4) The small church of Sint-Andreas

In the village, you can see a church from the 18th century dedicated to Saint Andreas.

5) Hydroelectric power station

There is also a hydroelectric power station, an important economic asset for the region. The power station (1973) is the largest reservoir power station in Belgium where energy is generated by draining water from the two upper basins and collecting it in a lower (artificially constructed) basin. At night the water is pumped back up.

6) Chairlift

From Plopsa Coo you can take a chair lift that takes you to a higher point for a beautiful view of the entire valley.

7) Adventure

An adventurer in you? Then go to Coo Adventure. You can kayak, mountain bike, parasail, and many more. To visit the animal park ‘Wild Park’ you have to take a seat on a tourist train (departure from the Coo-Adventure building). In the animal park, you will find deer, stone sheep, and wild boars, but you can also spot wolves.
