Cliffs of Moher | Wild Rover Tours

If you have visited Dublin and have some time over, you should definitely want to see some of Ireland’s nature. I recommend a trip to the cliffs of Moher (which we did) or a trip to Glendalough (Wicklow Mountains, the setting of P.S. I love you) which looks stunning. We were dying to see the cliffs of Moher, so we booked ourselves a ticket at Wild Rover Tours (via Get your Guide).

Price: €80 with GetYourGuide

First, you get picked up in Dublin and you’ll have a bathroom break in Moneygall. Moneygall is a small town, where Barack Obama’s great-grandfather was born. The drive from Dublin to the cliffs of Moher takes about 3 hours. When driving into the area, I felt like a Teletubby; wherever you looked, you saw bright green hills and plains.

The cliffs of Moher

The cliffs of Moher consists of 2 roads. You can go to the left or you can go to the right. We decided to do both sides, and luck was on our side that day because the sun was shining bright and the wind was mild. If there are no clouds, you can see the Iron Islands from the cliffs.

Mind your step though, there is a lot of mud. Wear good shoes and stay behind the wall! Trespassing the wall is at your own risk because the cliff may break down due to coastal erosion. Last year 27 people died by climbing over the wall. SO, BEWARE!

Fun Fact: This is the location where Dumbledore and Harry Potter found the first Horcrux in the Harry Potter saga.

Sad Fact: I did not find any Horcruxes.

The Burren national park

The Burren national park was very beautiful yet strange. I had never seen anything like that before. The park is dominated by glaciated karst (some sort of limestone) landscape. Be sure not to twist or break your ankle though! Also, don’t try to drop your phone between the cracks (20 meters deep sometimes).

Galway Bay

After the Burren, we drove further to Galway Bay. We had a city tour with our guide, Noel, who told us the family story of the Lynch Family. It involves a monkey, 2 fires, and 3 babies. If you think that sounds strange, well then you’re right.

We also visited the remains of a tiny church. Legend has it that 2 Irish priests found an undiscovered land across the sea, returned to Galway and told their story to a guy named Christopher Columbus. We all know how his story turned out

Fun Fact: For all the Ed Sheeran fans out there, you probably know his Galway Girl hit. The video of that song was filmed in an Irish pub in Galway. I tried to find it but failed. 🙁

Be sure to visit Ireland someday! I loved its nature, loved its pubs and the people there are so kind!
