15 must do’s in Berlin

One of my best friends (Eva) decided to study abroad (Berlin, Germany). So my friend Lisa and I simply had to pay her a visit! 6 months later I returned to Berlin for a school trip. Here are my must do’s when in Berlin.

Check out my Instagram for more photos!

1) I want to ride my bicycle

The best way to cool off in the summer is to rent a bike. The wind and the sun in your face equal heaven. It’s also handy to discover the city!

2) Sieggesäule

The Sieggesäule is next to the Großer Tiergarten (Park). You can climb the Sieggesäule if you want. I did it in the winter and you can see the beautiful skyline of Berlin.

3) Brandenburger Tor

Brandenburger Tor is the most famous monument in Berlin. Everyone knows it and everyone visits it. The Brandenburger Tor is also in front of the hotel where Michael Jackson showed his baby son (from the balcony). Take your bike from Brandenburger Tor to Humboldt University. On your way, you’ll pass the Museuminsel.

4) Spreegold

If you want to enjoy a decent brunch, you have to go to Spreegold. Scrambled eggs with some pancakes and fruit equal love in my tummy.

5) Fernsehturm

With our well-filled bellies, we went to Alexanderplatz to see the Fernsehturm. The ball turns slowly and you can see the skyline of Berlin

Fun fact: wherever you are in Berlin, you’ll see the Fernsehturm.

6) Berliner Dom

When it’s hot in Berlin, the Berliner Dom is the perfect place to cool things off. This is also the place where Adolf Hitler held a speech.

7) Hackescher Markt

If you’re looking for a place to eat something, then go to Hackescher Markt. There are also some cocktail bars for you to visit!

8) East side gallery

Next, we went to the East side gallery to see one of the most famous kisses of all time:  the kiss between Leonid Brezhnev and Erich Honecker.

9) Holocaust Memorial

After our meal, we went to visit the Holocaust Memorial. It’s set up this way to confuse people because that’s how the people felt in the holocaust camps: confused and lost. This is certainly a must-do when you are in Berlin.

10) Reichstag

I had the opportunity to visit the Reichstag with my university. We even got a tour inside the building (not just the tourist part). We first saw the walls that still had marks of the world war. There were gunshots and words written on the wall. After that, we joined the tourists in the dome of the Reichstag.

Tip: Book your tickets in advance. Tickets are almost always sold out.

11) Ballet: Swan lake

Once again I had the opportunity to see Swan Lake thanks to my university. I really was tired that evening but the dancers did an amazing job.

12) Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church

So the old church was bombed during world war 2. Now you can see what is left over. They build two new churches with the same name but more modern. They call it the Lipstick and the Powder Box.

13) Rooftop bar

Berlin has a lot of rooftop bars and I went to the Monkey Bar. The monkey bar has a beautiful view of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church and the zoo.

14) Sony Center Berlin

The Sony center is built to resemble Mount Fuji. You can see this from the Reichstag.

15) Checkpoint Charlie

I really wanted to see this but I was disappointed. It’s just an old post with a guard. Cars can drive past it. This is located in the shopping street.
