4 must do’s in Siena
Our last stop before going to Venice is Siena. Not sure what to do? Here are my 4 must do’s when in Siena.
Check out my Instagram for more photos!
1) Piazza del Campo
The Piazza del Compo is one of the largest and most beautiful medieval squares in Europe. Twice a year (2nd of July and 16th of August), a horse race is held at the Piazza called Palio di Siena. It was raining when we were there so the photos are a bit gloomy. Don’t forget to check out the fountain on the piazza!
2) Torre del Mangia
The Torre del Mangia is at Piazza del Campo since the 14th century. You can climb to the top of the Torre del Mangia to admire the Piazza. The climb of the Torre counts 400 steps.
3) Palazzo Pubblico
The Torre del Mangia is part of the Palazzo Pubblico, the city hall of Siena. The Palazzo Pubblico was build in the 13th century and is still in use to this day. The building is also used as a museum where you can find different Italian artworks.
4) Duomo Santa Maria
Our last stop in Siena is the Duomo Santa Maria. The construction started in 1210 and ended 200 years later. The Cathedral has the typical Italian Gothic style that can be found in Siena and Toscane. We didn’t have the time to enter the building but I’ve heard it’s a must! The interior is even more beautiful.
Other things you can do in Siena are eating and souvenir shopping!
