Mombasa | Kenya
Before going on safari in Kenya we explored Mombasa! Here are my must do’s when in Mombasa.
After approx 14 hours of flying and one-stop in Kilimanjaro, my parents and I arrived at Mombasa airport. Our tour operator dropped us off at Bamburi Beach Hotel ***. It was raining. We were afraid because we only packed summer clothing A.K.A. shorts and T-shirts. Eventually, the rain stopped and the sun came out.

1) Gate of Mombasa
The following day, we met two Dutch elderly couples in our hotel and they gave us their private chauffeur to visit Mombasa. When you want to visit Mombasa, you must have a trustworthy chauffeur because the city can be dangerous sometimes. First, we visited the gate of Mombasa that is located next to a park where hundreds of bats are living in the trees, hanging like bananas.
2) Ferry
Secondly, we saw the ferry cross that is famous from the book ‘The White Maasai’. A gigantic ferry filled with hundreds of people and cars crosses the
3) Marketplace
We also passed by the marketplace but we weren’t allowed to leave the car as this place is not safe for tourists. We also had to lock our doors and close our windows.
4) Hindu temple
We also visited a Hindu temple! It was a small temple but it was nothing compared to the temples I’ve seen in Sri Lanka.
5) Fort Jesus
Fort Jesus used to be the protection of the Old Port of Mombasa. It’s also a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
6) Old town
Lastly, we saw the old town that is from walking distance from Fort Jezus. The old town consists of some old buildings but that’s it.
P.S. Hakuna Matata!
P.P.S. It really does mean: No worries!
