7 Must do’s in Châlons-en-Champagne
Châlons-en-Champagne is the capital city of Marne even when Reims is 4 times bigger. Here are my must do’s when in Châlons-en-Champagne, France.
P.S. Check out my Instagram for more photos!
1. Châlons Cathedral
This cathedral replaced a Romanesque cathedral after a huge fire. King Louis XIV found this cathedral to be the most beautiful one in the kingdom.
2. Collégiale Notre-Dame-en-Vaux
This church is a World Heritage Site and was built in the 12th century. The church was a gathering place for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela.
3. Champagne Region
Go check out the 600 km long Champagne Trail when in Châlons-en-Champagne. Take the scenic route to discover small producers and big producers. We wanted to visit a Champagne producer where you can see the underground caves but decided not to do so. That’s for another time!
4. Caves Joseph Perrier
The caves of Joseph Perrier are 2000 years old and are near Châlons-en-Champagne. Try to do a champagne tasting if you like!
5. Canal Cruise
Châlons-en-champagne calls itself La Venise Pétillante (The Sparkling Venice). Which means you can also take boat rides on the canal to discover the city.
6. Les Jards
Another nickname is Garden Town because it has 3 profound gardens from the middle ages: Petit Jard, Grand Jard, and Jardin des Anglais.
7. Walk around town
Walk around town and discover Châlons yourself! Check out the townhall (Hôtel de Ville) and the Porte Sainte-Croix triumphal arch.
We discovered the city in one evening where we just strolled around town and ended up enjoying a delicious glass of wine.
