Best things to do, itineraries & tips
Tunisia is a country in Africa, and Algeria and Libya surround it. It’s famous for its archaeological sites, such as Carthage (9th century BC), as well as the Great Mosque of Kairouan, souks (markets), blue coasts, and, of course, Star Wars film locations. Most people come to Tunisia to get away from it all and enjoy a relaxing holiday, but you can certainly also do things. I’ve visited the country twice already, and I’m still discovering new gems with every visit! Here are the must-dos and must-sees when you’re in Tunisia.

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions
✈️ Best time to travel to Tunisia?
The best times to travel are spring, summer, and autumn (April to November). The summer months are very hot, so overnight stays in the middle of the Sahara Desert are not available then (you can still do day trips into the desert). I visited Tunisia in both May and August, and it was just lovely weather!
🕒 How many days do you need for a road trip in Tunisia?
The ideal route is 15-20 days. The first time we stayed in 1 hotel in Sousse and did day trips from that location. The second time, we decided to do a road trip and see a lot more. This was tiresome as you spend a lot of hours in the car as well. End your road trip with more than 3 beach days for relaxation.
🚙 Can you take a road trip in Tunisia?
Yes, a road trip is possible, and the best way to see as much as you can of Tunisia. However, I would not recommend driving a car yourself, as most of the routes are in the desert or mountains with no signs or visible on Google Maps. A local driver is essential.
🛟 Is it safe in Tunisia?
Yes, it’s generally safe for travelers. Always stay vigilant for pickpockets or scams and dress appropriately where needed (mosques).
