Transportation for this Thailand Itinerary

Popular transport includes grab taxis, private drivers, tuk-tuks, planes, trains, boats, and buses. We doubted about taking the night train from Bangkok to Chiang Rai but opted for a cheaper flight with shorter duration. We did take the evening bus from Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai.

How many days do you need in Thailand?

Thailand can be done in 2 weeks, and you will have seen the major highlights. However, I can easily go back for another trip and see Pai in the north or more of the islands in the south. So Thailand can also be done in 3-weeks or, like most backpackers, go for a month.

We started in Bangkok, went to Chiang Rai by plane, continued by bus to Chiang Mai, and concluded our trip in Krabi with some relaxation. Before this 2-week adventure, I did a 1-week trip to Siem Reap, Cambodia.

Bangkok | 4 Days

Arriving in Bangkok was overwhelming as it was my first Asian country. The towering buildings are mixed with ancient temples. Here are my tips when in Bangkok.

Chiang Rai | 3 Days

Chiang Rai is quite small but worth a visit for its unique temples and green environments, such as tea plantations. Read my things to see in Chiang Rai.

Chiang Mai | 3 Days

Chiang Mai is known as the elephant city, with many elephant sanctuaries. The city also has many impressive temples (some dedicated to elephants), and you can’t miss out on the huge evening market on Sunday. Here are my tips for Chiang Mai.

Krabi | 5 Days

We decided to go to Krabi to avoid the many tourists that can be found in Phuket. Krabi was our last stop in Thailand to fully relax. Read my tips for Krabi.
