Rock Werchter Festival Guide | Belgium
Rock Werchter is a festival in Werchter, Belgium with big musical acts, art installations, and life-size games. Are you going to one of the biggest Belgian festivals for the first time? Here’s my Rock Werchter guide!
Following my travels live on instagram!
Transportation to Rock Werchter
There are several ways to Rock Werchter. Public transport is the most sustainable one, your Rock Werchter festival ticket gives you a free train ticket in your name. This ticket is valid for a return journey in 2nd class from a Belgian departure station to Rock Werchter and back. The final part of the journey with a special (shuttle) bus from De Lijn is included in your ticket.
You can also travel by car, but then you have to have bought a parking ticket. Without a parking ticket, you will not have access to the car parks. The sale of parking tickets starts a week in advance.
Tip: Choose a car park that is nearest to your camping spot.
You can also come by bike, several bike parks are made available around Rock Werchter!
Tip: Do you want to stay in style after a day at Rock Werchter? Then RW partner Keolis offers packages that include a festival ticket, hotel stay, breakfast and bus transport. It will cost you something, but you don’t have to compromise on comfort!
Rock Werchter campsites
If you’re staying for a day, it’s not necessary to book a camping. For a weekend or multiple days, it is recommended unless you live on a bike ride away 😉
Tip: Don’t forget to book your extra camping ticket, as this is not included as standard with your festival ticket.

Regular Camping: these basic campsites are not run by the festival organiser, but are within walking distance of the festival grounds. Basic, but very cosy! Bring your tent!
Note: you can only enter the regular campsite on Thursday morning.
The Hive: Upgrade from regular camping because there are “better” facilities such as showers, decent toilets, etc. This campsite is run by the festival organizer, the official Rock Werchter campsite. You will walk a little longer to the festival entrance, but you will have earlier access to the campsite starting from Wednesday.. If you stay at one of The Hive campsites, you have direct access to Central Park where you can find food trucks, bars, and other facilities. Every evening there is also an after-party with DJs at Central Park!
The Hive My Space: Reserve a spot for your tent, or have a tent set up in advance! As the name says, you will have space.
The Hive Resort: Resort = glamping! Various packages are available, depending on what kind of tent, bed, or accommodation you prefer.
The Hive ADL in collaboration with Inter is especially for festival-goers with a disability. This campsite opens on Thursday morning.
Rock Werchter Mobilhome is exclusively for mobile homes/campers/motorhomes, and offers adapted facilities.
Tip: Check the FAQ for all the rules for taking things to the campsite and the festival site
The entrance gates
Sometimes there is a queue at the entrance gates of the festival because the security keeps a close eye on everything. Make sure you do not have any prohibited items with you. Scan your ticket to receive your wristband. If you go multiple days, then on those other days you have to scan your wristband.
Tip: There are sunscreen dispensers on the festival grounds. Forgot your sunscreen? Get some!
The festival site
The Werchter Festival Park has four large stages. From large to small; Main Stage, The Barn, Klub C, and The Slope. The Barn and Klub C are huge tents with climate control. Are these tents in full capacity then you have to wait outside and enjoy the concert via the screens or see through the entrance.
Around the stages, you will find numerous food trucks, art, sponsored games, and a festival market. There is plenty to do during a day at Rock Werchter, but the focus is mainly on the line-up.
The festival ground opens at 12:00 for the die-hards as the the program runs every day from 13:00 to 01:00. When the last band has finished you have to leave the festival ground and go home or to your campsite. Those who sleep at the Hive can enjoy an after-party still at their campsite!
Cashless festival with coins on your festival wristband
On the Festival grounds, The Hive and The Hive Resort you pay for food and drinks with Coins, Rock Werchter’s own digital currency. You can buy Coins via the QR code on the tag of your festival wristband, via the Rock Werchter app, or at the cash registers. One Coin costs 3.50 euros (2024). The purchased Coins are credited to the chip of your festival wristband and can be used immediately. Swipe your wristband at the reader at the drinks and food stands to pay.
Tip: Turn around your chip so others can’t scan your wristband and steal your coins!
Tip: Group? Opt for a card so not everyone has to go separately for drinks! These cards are available at every Top-Up cash register on the festival grounds.
Enjoying Rock Werchter!
Now that you have all the important information, it’s time to prepare yourself well for Rock Werchter. With a great line-up and friends, it will be great!
