Camp AbdelMoula is a luxury camp in the middle of the Sahara Desert (Tembaine Sahara Dunes). We were drawn to the camp’s location in the middle of the desert with amazing views. Here’s my hotel review of Camp AbdelMoula in the Tembaine Sahara Desert, Tunisia.

Quick overview

⭐I would give this luxury camp a 4.5-star rating.
📍Great location and secluded from mass tourism
💲Good price quality
🕒We stayed here one night (May)
🛏️Tents are spacious, however, no air conditioning is provided (but we didn’t need it)

First impressions & check-in experience

The staff is very friendly and carried our luggage to our tents. They explained everything to us: where we could go into the desert, how late the sun would set, that we could climb the tower for a panoramic view, and when we were expected for dinner.

Location & Accessibility

Our driver dropped us off at the Hotel after spending a day around the desert. Hotel Pansy is a 10-minute walk from Ksar Ghilane, an oasis in the Sahara Desert. Ksar Ghilane offers many activities such as dune buggy, quad riding, or camel riding. The Oasis also has a bar where you can have a drink near the spring. The Sahara Desert you see from the camp looks more like dunes as it’s near an oasis. For a more deserted look and feel, stay in the Tembaines Dunes. We stayed there as well, and it was more mesmerizing. See for yourself.

Facilitites & services

There is a small inflatable swimming pool for those who want to have a dip. You can rent quads to go into the desert with a guide. We went with the guides to the top of the dune to do some stargazing. A sandstorm started to unfold, and we were obliged to cut our stargazing short and go back to the camp. From that same viewpoint, we caught the sunset and sunrise. Just ask the camp at what times you need to start your climb to be able to catch it! This time it was not cloudy, and wow, what an amazing view we had! Can we stay here forever?

We were the only ones in the camp, it was the end of the desert season. Dining (couscous) was delicious, and breakfast was good.

Room review

The tents aren’t provided with air conditioning, but we didn’t need it as the tents were cool on their own. The tents are spacious and really beautifully decorated. The bathroom is in a separate container, as are the toilets. The showers are very small, with not much space to undress. There is no Wi-Fi nor network options, so this will be a stay where you are offline!

Overall, Camp AbdelMoula is perfect for staying in the desert, secluded from mass tourism. The hotel offers a good price-quality ratio. It’s perfect for couples or adult groups that want a relaxing stay. I’d happily stay again!

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions Tunisia

✈️ Best time to travel to Tunisia?

The best times to travel to Tunisia are spring, summer, and autumn (April to November). The summer months are very hot, so overnight stays in the middle of the Sahara Desert are not available then (you can still do day trips into the desert). I visited Tunisia in both May and August, and it was just lovely weather!

🕒 How many days do you need for a road trip in Tunisia?

The ideal route is 15-20 days. The first time we stayed in 1 hotel in Sousse and did day trips from that location. The second time, we decided to do a road trip and see a lot of Tunisia. This was tiresome as you spend a lot of hours in the car as well. End your road trip with more than 3 beach days as relaxation.

🚙 Can you take a road trip in Tunisia?

Yes, a road trip in Tunisia is possible, and the best way to see as much as you can of Tunisia. However, I would not recommend driving a car yourself, as most of the routes are in the desert or mountains with no signs or visible on Google Maps. A local driver is essential.

🛟 Is it safe in Tunisia?

Yes, Tunisia is generally safe for travelers. Always stay vigilant for pickpockets or scams and dress appropriately where needed (mosques).
