Gear Review | Osprey Tempest 16

I already have an Osprey Backpack which I love. This time I’m reviewing the Osprey Tempest 16 Women’s Hiking Daypack during my trip to Canada.

Features Osprey Tempest 16

The Osprey Tempest 16 is a compact, modern backpack that is perfect to take on a hiking trip in the woods or a day trip in the city. The bag looks small but it can be filled with quite some equipment! I loved this the most about this bag! When empty the bag is very small and light, but when packed, it stretches!

The Osprey Tempest 16 comes with some nice features which are handy during your day trip. The bag has an external reservoir sleeve behind the shoulder harness. When wearing the backpack, you’ll have two side stretch pockets where you can store your phone and sunglasses away. The two side pockets of the bag are big enough for your water bottle or your pocket umbrella. The side pockets have compression straps to secure your items when your pack isn’t full. I personally don’t use trekking poles but if you do, you can stow them away in the trekking pole attachment.

Flight Proof?

So is this backpack flight proof? The answer is yes. The backpack is small enough to be placed under the seat in front of you.

My backpack had the following gadgets in it: Canon Camera, GoPro, wallet, sweater, blanket, a bottle of water, some snacks, glasses, sunglasses, a bag with medicines (just in case), puzzle book, a power bank, chargers, and headphones. Yes, the bag was big enough and I still had some space left!

Hike Proof?

The backpack is designed for women who are going to hike. I did several hikes in Canada, and as a female hiker, I can confirm that this backpack is hike proof for women. You hardly feel the weight of the backpack when hiking. The only minor thing is the back sweat. My back was always wet (from the sweat) even though the back has a special foam in it to prevent this situation.

My backpack had the following gadgets in it during a hike: Canon Camera, GoPro, wallet, a bottle of water, sunglasses, a bag with medicines (just in case), and a bear bell. With these gadgets, the bag was only half full. The bag was full (but with still some space left) whenever I put my sweater, raincoat and towel in it.

Rain Proof?

It’s not waterproof but water-resistant. We did some hikes on rainy days and my backpack stayed dry! One day we had a thunderstorm and only the pocket on top and the side pockets were a bit wet (but no water in the bag).

Waterfall Proof?

But was the backpack also waterfall proof? We had the opportunity to walk under a waterfall: meaning a good shower on our heads and bag. The route under the waterfall is a dead end so we had to walk under the waterfall twice. I checked the bag: the top pocket was wet and the bottom on the backside was soaked (weird because that was the spot where no water should be). When I checked my bag, the bottom and my towel were dry, only the top pocket was a bit wet (but not soaked which seemed at first). Yes! Overall the bag is pretty water-resistant which I like! Just don’t try to challenge its limit by going under a waterfall. πŸ˜‰

Recap

I can definitely recommend this backpack and I’m so glad I had this bag on my trip. Didn’t feel the weight during my hikes, had enough space for my stuff and it was water-resistant. The only minor thing was the back sweat.
