5 Must do’s in Champagne | France
Sippin’ champagne in the sun? It is possible during a long weekend in the Champagne region. Here are my must do’s when in Champagne, France.
The wine region within Champagne is best known for the production of champagne also known as sparkling white wine. Law reserves the term “champagne” exclusively for wines that come from this region. The city of Reims and the town of Épernay are the commercial centers of the area even though Châlons-en-champagne is the capital of the region.

1) Reims
Reims must be on top of your list when you’re going to the region as this is the commercial center for champagne. When visiting the town, don’t forget to visit the Porte Mars, Crytoportique, Place Royal, the cathedral, Palace of Tau, the opera, Place Drouet d’Erlon and Porte Paris. The cathedral of Reims is quite interesting as every French King was crowned there.

3) Épernay
You can’t visit the region and not come to this grand street in Épernay where several iconic brands have their headquarters.
You could say it is Champagne’s spiritual home, with extravagant manifestations of the wealth that the industry brought these winemakers in the 18th and 19th century.
There are some 200 million bottles of champagne beneath this street, which we’re told makes it even richer than the Champs-Élysées .The first house on the avenue to open its doors to the public was Moët & Chandon way back at the start of the 19th century; it would be shame not to drop in for a visit and pick up a couple of bottles!

4) Troyes
1hrs20 from Épernay lies Troyes. Troyes is part of the historic Champagne-Ardenne region and is the largest town in the Aube department. It was an important city in the early Middle Ages where annual fairs were held. It might even have resisted Atilla the Hun and his army in the fifth century.
The city of Troyes is best known for its well-preserved historic center. A large part of the inner city still consists of beautifully renovated wooden houses. Walk through the city and check out the following places: Saint-Pierre Saint-Paul, Maison de l’Outil et de la Pensée Ouvriere, Saint Nizier district, Eglise Sainte-Madeleine, Rue de Champeaux and Rue de Molé.
