7 must do’s when in Liège | Belgium
If you are exploring cities in Belgium, then you must explore Liège. The city’s citadel or the modern train station. Here are my 7 must do’s when in Liège.
P.S. Check out my Instagram for more photos!
1) Citadel of Liège
The Belgian city is surrounded by green slopes and there are four different walking routes to follow. They all lead to the Citadel of Liège, located at the top of the mountain.
2) Montagne de bueren
From the Montagne de Bueren, you have a phenomenal view. To get there you have to climb a long, steep staircase of 374 steps, but the view makes up for it.
Fun Fact: The first Saturday of October there is a party on this staircase: La Nuit des Coteaux.
3) Train Station
Visit the hypermodern Liège-Guillemins train station! Anyone who likes photography can indulge themselves here.
4) St paul cathedral and Church of st bartholomew
Visit these historical buildings and admire their architecture! Don’t forget the cloisters of St. Paul’s Cathedral.
5) Palace of prince bishops
Behold the atmospheric courtyards with half-timbered houses and flowery courtyards. Especially the street Impasse de la Couronne is very beautiful as is the Prince-Bishop’s Palace.
6) Place du Marché
The Market Square, in the historic center of Liège, is one of the oldest and most important squares in the city, along with the nearby Saint-Lambert Square. Check out La Violette (the City Hall building), the Fountain of Tradition, and the fountain Perron de Liège.
Sad Fact: a bombing ordered by King Louis XIV in 1691 destructed the original square.
7) Christmas Market in December
Visit Liège when the Christmas market is in town!
