The Castle of Laeken is the home of our King and Queen of Belgium. It lies in the Park of Laeken right at the edge of Brussels. De Koninklijke Serres (the Royal Greenhouses) of Laeken are open for the public for only 3 weeks. Follow my day trip in their greenhouses!

The Royal Greenhouses were built by Alphonse Balat in 1873. He created the greenhouses for King Leopold II who also had an input in the design. But before finalizing the Royal Greenhouses, Alphonse built a greenhouse in the Botanical Garden Meise as a trial. If you want you can still visit that greenhouse in the Botanical Garden of Meise. The plants and flowers that are kept in the greenhouses are from rare and exotic origins. Some are still remains of the plants that King Leopold II had planted himself.
Entrance: €7, to be booked in advance in March 👇
Kasteel van Laeken (The Castle of Laeken)
Before entering the Royal Greenhouses of Laeken, you have to go to the Castle of Laeken. After waiting in a (long) queue, you will pass by the castle where you can take your first photo.

The Orangery
After that, you’ll enter the Orangery. Just go through it because this will also be your last stop. This is the place where the plants and trees are put when it’s cold outside.
Theatre Greenhouse
The first greenhouse that you’ll encounter is the Theatre Greenhouse. This greenhouse is made of steel and glass in 1905 by Charles Girault.

Royal Park of Laeken
You exit the Orangery and from then on you’ll be walking for around 40 minutes in the Royal Park of Laeken before you enter another greenhouse. During your walk, you’ll see the Parc of Laeken, the exterior of the Grand Winter Garden, the exterior of the Embarcadère and the Greenhouse of the Congo.

Japanese Tower
After a while, you’ll encounter an amazing view of the Japanese Tower. The tower is located on the Royal Domain of Laeken.
Photo tip: Take a photo with the cherry blossom trees!

Queen Elisabeth Studio
One building stands out in the Royal Park of Laeken: The studio of Queen Elisabeth. The cottage was built in 1938.

Greenhouses!
When you walk through the greenhouses, you’ll pass several piers.

They lead you to the greenhouses.

The Winter Garden
The Winter Garden is the most legendary Royal Greenhouse. The glass dome is represented by a royal crown that is seen at the beginning of the tour. I found this place the most beautiful one!
