Austria Travel Guide

Best things to do, itineraries & tips

Green hills, skiing, Christmas markets, Mozart, Wienerschnitzel, and The Sound of Music. Austria has so much to offer! It’s a country with a wide variety of climates, so when to visit depends on the activities you want to do! Overall, the best time to visit is between April and May, and between September to October. June through August is the high season, meaning crowds and higher prices. This is also the season of the Salzburg Festival, the Vienna Festival, and the Rainbow Parade! Winter is perfect for the Vienna Christmas market or going skiing in the Austrian Alps before relaxing at a ski resort.

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions Austria

⛷️ Is Austria worth visiting for skiing?

Yes! Austria is one of the top locations in Europe for skiing in the winter.

🛟 Is Austria safe for tourists?

Yes, it is safe. Just keep an eye out for pickpockets.

🚗 How to get to Austria?

I’ve always come by car or by bus. Depending on the end destination in Austria, it’s been an 8-10-hour drive from Belgium.

In order to drive in Austria, you need to have snow tires on your car and to have snow chains in your car (so they don’t need to be set up already, you just need to have them present in the car).

Don’t forget that if you’re driving in Germany (to get to Austria), you might need a vignette for your car. Order this in advance, as this can take a while.
